Ok I am going to be quite self indulgent, I would like to mention the three greatest Jazz albums of all time.

Namely:

Mingus Ah Hum, Charlie Mingus

Take 5, the Dave Brubeck Quartet

Kind of Blue, Miles Davis

If you get the chance to listen to any of these albums my sincere advise is to listen and appreciate the total genius contained within and wonder why on earth this flowering should occur at this particular time, remember that Sputnik orbited the earth, I was three years old and popular music was about to explode with the advent of the sixties. This however is Jazz, it would later be re-discovered as quantum physics. If you listen hard you will hear both the future and the past of jazz co-existing in a brief melody, a moment in time that will never be repeated. It’s high art and low life. Listen…………………….three fantastic albums……………….wonderful.

Oh yes the point, they were all recorded in 1959, a good year, I think you`ll agree.

Surprises (no matter how much you think you know a place)

Rain, what do you do on a rainy day? Go to the museum, consequently Lynne and I visited Preston Museum and Art gallery, a new exhibition had just opened featuring clothes ( fabrics and fashion really) so Lynne was well up for a look. Well what a surprise, the building itself is nothing short of amazing, a huge open central atrium, with its very own Foucault`s pendulum (google it ) and several floors of art, some a lot better than others.

There is some fascinating and wonderful art to discover within, however there is also some of this stuff too……

TV Wire and Copper tube

Sorry but it`s just a telly with a bit of copper pipe on the co-ax isn`t it? Or am I missing something?

And what is this supposed to represent?

Its a broom and a shovel right?

I am afraid that I will always be a stranger to this particular means of expression, however dont let this little rant put you off. There really are some cracking pieces to be seen in the other halls of the gallery, not to mention a couple of really nice exhibitions and as previously stated the building itself is a marvel. If you get the chance on a rainy day you could do a whole lot worse and you may well be pleasantly surprised, I was!

Awards (well for those of us more talented)

Recently attended a film festival at the National Museum of TV and Photography in Bradford. I am slightly out of date here of course as it is more correctly known as the National Media Museum. Alex had two films being shown as part of the Young film makers Festival sponsored by the good old Co-Op. Quite a prestigious event with entrants coming from all over the UK and internationally.

Alex had two movies shown that were entered by Runshaw college, The Eric Wright Foundation and Skate community, which I know better as Re-tales…..Any way as Alex was away studying hard at Uni I got to receive a prize!

As well as a t- shirt and certificate, well chuffed………

Seriously I was incredibly proud of Alex, very well done, it is a real pity that both Alex and Jim could not be there. So nice to see Alex`s work on the big screen too! popcorn was quite nice as well.

Once again big congrats to my talented son.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do, no death, no destruction, no car chase, just a beautifully crafted story about people with passion.

Here is a photo of Lynne, its taken recently on a walk from Studland Bay in Dorset to Swanage. We have just joined the Ridgeway after visiting Old Harry Rocks, In the background is Bournemouth and Poole harbour.

Our son Alex is presently studying Film and TV production at Bournemouth University, so he is somewhere in the background there…………….we do miss him being around and the fact he has left home is a bit sad but he does live by the seaside, loves his course and it was a nice day for a walk !
